C3A at the 2024 International Forum on Carbon Pricing in Baku
As Azerbaijan prepares to host COP29, C3A has been collaborating with the State Tax Service of Azerbaijan to explore the design options for carbon pricing mechanisms. This initiative aims to equip Azerbaijan with effective strategies for addressing climate change through robust carbon pricing frameworks.
Since the start of the year, C3A has collaborated with the State Tax Service of Azerbaijan, laying the groundwork for discussions on carbon pricing. This collaboration culminated in the International Forum on Carbon Pricing, held in Baku on September 25 and 26. The forum was jointly organized by the State Tax Service and the Intra-European Organization of Tax Authorities (IOTA), bringing together over 60 experts and innovators in taxation, tax legislation, and environmental policy from across the globe.
The event provided a vital platform for participants to share their experiences and best practices related to carbon pricing and its implementation. During these two days, C3A played a pivotal role by moderating discussions on the economic implications of carbon pricing, evaluating various design scenarios and their potential economic, fiscal, distributional, and environmental impacts.
Key participants included representatives from tax administrations, the business community, academia, and innovators, all contributing to a rich exchange of ideas and strategies. Notably, C3A also facilitated engagement with staff from the World Bank.
This collaboration highlights C3A's commitment to fostering international dialogue and knowledge-sharing on climate policy in the region, paving the way for effective carbon pricing mechanisms that can support Azerbaijan’s environmental goals and broader sustainability efforts. As discussions on carbon pricing continue, the insights gained from this forum will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping future policies in Azerbaijan and beyond.
